¡¡¡¡Established in 1959, the institute is the only one provincial scientific research unit of animal science and veterinary medicine in Shandong. It has 102 staff members including 33 senior researchers with 6 departments and 4 experimental farms. The departments are pig raising, herbivore production, animal nutrition, animal product processing, feeds and feed additives and veterinary. The farms are pig and chicken, cattle, goat and rabbit. For promoting the industrialization of the scientific research achievements, feed additive experimental factory, animal product processing factory, animal health center, animal health pharmaceutical factory, animal clinic and product marketing department are built up one after another. The new type of animal medicines, vaccines, diagnostic agents, feeds and feed additives are spread to all over the markets of Shandong province and introduced to the neighbor provinces.
¡¡¡¡he institute stress on the research as working centre, the development as motive forces and the key problems in animal production as research projects. So, it has made 1 billion yuan of social profit and won 68 national, ministerial and provincial awards in the field of livestock breeds, animal nutrition and high efficient production techniques, disease prevention and treatment, animal health products and biotechnology e.g. embryo transplantation in ¡°the Eight Five Year Plan¡±. It was awarded ¡°Agricultural Research Excellent Institute in Synthetical Researching Ability¡± in ¡°the Seventh and Eight Five Year Plan¡± and the honorable title of ¡°the National 100 Excellent Institutes in Agricultural Researching and Developing Synthetical Strength¡± in ¡°the Eight Five Year Plan¡± by the Agricultural Ministry of China.
¡¡¡¡Recently, both Boer goat breeding centre and lean type of pig breeding centre of Shandong have been built up and can supply the whole country with excellent breeds and the necessary techniques.

¡¡¡¡The institute always persist in taking high technology as its foundation and first class service as its aim, basing itself upon Shandong and keeping the whole country in view. The institute has been making a great contribution to the prosperity of aniaml husbandry in Shandong and is willing to cooperate with the national and the foreign institutions or individuals of the same field for the splendor of the animal husbandry.
