About Us
The Institute of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine (IASVM) originated from an animal husbandry unit under the Shandong Agricultural Sciences Institute (the former Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, SAAS) in 1955. It was expanded into the Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, which included two units: Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, in the summer of 1957. The IASVM was founded as one of the earliest 16 established institutes approved by the People's Council of Shandong Province as per Document No. 442 LNKY (59) on April 11 of 1959.
On May 23, 1984, the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Commission (84) Lukeguan Zi No. 72 approved establishing the "Feed Research Institute of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences," which was co-organized with the IASVM.
On May 14, 2010, Shandong Provincial Establishment Committee LBB (2010) No. 43 canceled the "Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences Feed Research Institute" and established the "Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences Dairy Research Center". On June 28, 2017, Lu Nongke Dangfa [2017] No. 27 approved establishing the "Council of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Research Institute of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences." On April 25, 2021, the Dairy Cattle Research Center was revoked. Its personal was merged into IASVM as per Document No. 3 LB (2021), titled "Provisions of institutional organization in SAAS."
The IASVM is a public welfare Class I institution of Shandong Province. It ranks as a top-100 agricultural research institution in China in terms of comprehensive strength in scientific research.
